COMMENTARY: Tigers remain in tangled web concerning scheduling
I just don't get Auburn's complete incompetence when it comes to scheduling football games. ... I jokingly said last week that AU officials hadn't finalized the '09 football schedule because they were waiting to see if a hole on The Citadel's schedule would open up. I had no idea I was so right. None of this makes any sense. Honestly, it's as if when football scheduling time rolls around an entirely new staff of people take over. And they do idiotic things, like schedule The Citadel, Furman and West Virginia. ... |

Porcher will give an encore of his talk, Lowcountry Folk Remedies & Pharmacology: A History, at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center, 5821 U.S. Highway 17, Awendaw. WATERTOWN, N.Y. - When Brad Felder ('10 - November Co) tells the story, it sounds like something straight out of a Hollywood movie or spun from the mind of a baseball fiction novelist. Not Another Civil War
In the early morning of April 12, 1861, Confederate soldiers, outnumbering their counterparts 100 to 1 by at least one account, began their assault on Fort Sumter. The island fortress had been the last bastion for Union troops since South Carolina's dramatic secession nearly four months earlier on the Charleston peninsula. While the cannon attack on Fort Sumter is recognized as the "official" start of the war, local historians note a prologue — a Citadel cadet assault on a Union supply vessel called the Star of the West in January 1861. The school still honors a cadet each year with a Star of the West medal. ... |
