Eric Oman is the The Citadel's college web administrator. He is responsible for strengthening The Citadel's web presence.
One component of that strengthening is a consensus-building and idea-generating approach centered primarily around a college web committee.
Oman is responsible for developing and maintaining recommendations about web content, web structure, and web technology, to then be reviewed and commented on by various Citadel constituent groups through a web communications program. Oman's highest strategic priorities for The Citadel's web presence are the areas of fund-raising, admissions, and marketing.
Oman holds a B.S. and M.S. from the College of Engineering at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. While working on his degrees, he accumulated a total of six (6) months full-time professional programming experience with Ford Motor Company and three (3) years half-time professional programming experience with a project sub-contracted from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). His Masters research focused on the collection of laboratory data and creation of a mathematical computer model of a waste-water treatment system for use on the International Space Station, for a sub-contractor of NASA.
After graduating from Michigan Tech, he worked in a research team to integrate a series of environmental treatment models into computer software for the United States Environmental Protection Agency, thereby accumulating another two (2) years full-time professional programming experience.
In 2002, Oman joined The Citadel as college web administrator. Oman's previous experience working in a team of researchers to create and troubleshoot complex engineering systems has been helpful with his work in a team environment with web communication professionals at The Citadel to integrate the latest web technology into The Citadel's public web presence.
