Citadel cadets working through the new Office of Fellowships were granted Fulbright and Department of State Critical Language scholarships. Tara Lee Woodside of Salem, N.J., was offered a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Germany. John Daniel Lathers of Newport, N.C., was awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to learn Turkish this summer in Ankara.

The White House has announced the appointment of 14 White House Fellows, selected by the President's Commission on White House Fellowships, to participate in America's most prestigious fellowship program for leadership development and public service.


Campus sirens to be tested Wednesday

A test of the campus sirens will take place at approximately noon on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. The test is part of the college’s BulldogAlert emergency notification system. The sirens will sound for approximately three minutes. No action is required from faculty, staff and students.

The Commandant's List for the spring 2008 semester recognizes cadets who have been made the most positive contributions to their platoon, company, battalion, or staff, the Corps and The Citadel during the spring 2008 semester.

The Citadel Board of Visitors has approved an average 8 percent increase in the 2008-2009 comprehensive cost to parents and cadets. In addition, tuition at The Citadel Graduate College will increase by $45 per credit hour for graduate courses and $38 per credit hour for undergraduate CGC courses.

Larry Leckonby, senior associate athletics director and chief financial officer for the University of Maryland Athletics, was introduced Friday as The Citadel's new athletics director to replace the retiring Les Robinson.

The President’s List is the most distinguished awards list on which a cadet can be placed. It indicates excellence in academics and military duties. The list is a combination of the Dean’s List for academic achievement and the Commandant’s Distinguished List.

In an effort to help preserve one of the Lowcountry’s most visible landmarks, The Citadel and the grassroots organization Save the Light will collaborate to conduct long-term structural monitoring of the Morris Island Lighthouse.

A search committee has been created to find a new executive director for The Citadel Brigadier Foundation, which raises money for cadet-student-athletes. Stan Hurteau ‘64, who held the position for 17 years, will retire June 30.

The new addition to the West side stands of Johnson Hagood Stadium is continuing to progress. The impressive structure will be home to the South Carolina National Guard Readiness Center as well as The Citadel's new press box, sky box suites, club lounge and club seats.
